1234 Otis Street, “Made in the Shade”

Our house is a left of center brick Colonial, built in 1926.  It was designed by architect, Louis J. Rouleau and commissioned by the original owner, a chemistry professor at Catholic University.  The home has a gracious southern feeling, with floor to ceiling shutters flanking French doors on a four-column front porch.  Those same French doors frame the fireplace in the living room.  Additional interior French doors provide for light filled spaces.  Only the first floor of the house will be open for the tour.

The house sits back on the property, which is located on a hill.  Because of the many mature trees surrounding the home, the owners necessarily have become skilled at shade gardening.  The front garden features several seating areas.  The back yard has two terraces, a three tiered Italian fountain, and a large moss covered lawn area.  The east side of the house also has a four-level terraced garden.
