Raenelle Zapata writes, "My garden is my little bit of paradise. Nine years ago my back yard had two peonies, a couple of shrubs and was overgrown with bamboo. I have since carved out two flowerbeds—one for sun and one for shade. It has a variety of perennials and comes alive in the spring with hundreds of bulbs. As with most gardeners, I am constantly moving plants and installing additions, always trying to blend textures and colors that complement one another. Many of the plants are selected to provide movement and interest in the winter garden. In my book a garden is not complete without birds, and my garden has proven to be an excellent source for birding. It has several feeding and nesting stations, and I feel as though I have my own personal aviary.”This house was professionally designed in 1937 by the noted black architect, Hilyard Robinson in the International Style. The half dormer piercing the roof line hints at the Art Modern style.
